Supporting Reading Literacy with Virtual Reality in Literacy Land

We are thrilled to announce the opening of a brand-new land inside Avanti’s World; Literacy Land! Joining Super Science Land, Engaging Earth Land and Trip Through Time Land, Literacy Land is designed to support reading literacy and takes students on a journey through some of the most famous literature there is.

Throughout K-12 your students will progress from reading fairy tales to delving into classical books and analysing the words of Shakespeare – but how much more effective would it be if they could experience the key scenery from the literature as if they were there? Now they can! In Literacy Land “All the World’s a Stage” and you can be its player!

4 Fantastic Reading Literacy Zones to Explore

From the deserted island in Lord of the Flies to the mysterious forests of a Midsummer Night’s Dream, there’s so many fantastical scenes to explore in our exciting new Literacy Land Zones!

Classic Books

No matter where you are in the world, there are books and authors that everyone knows. These are what we like to describe as classic books, the must reads, those that are usually covered in the literacy curriculum in school.

Within the Classic Books zone, you’ll be able to work alongside George & Lennie in a Californian ranch from Of Mice and Men or experience the prevalence of racism in the 1930s courthouse in To Kill a Mockingbird – and so many more!

Early Years

Once upon a time…all the way through to today, fairy tales have been read to children for thousands of years and this exciting new zone brings some of your favourite fairy tales to life! Imagine being able to experience the “just right” feeling in Goldilocks and the Three Bears or explore the fairy tale land above the clouds in Jack and the Beanstalk. There are so many tales to explore!

Poets Corner

Poetry is a great aspect of the English language to teach your students. From the structure, rhyming words and hidden meanings, poetry provides another opportunity to analyse the words from the poets. Take Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven, your students can truly experience the poem like never before, walking around the bed chamber to look for clues from the poem and decipher the poet’s emotional state for an immersive learning experience.

Shakespeare

One of the greatest writers in the English Language, Shakespeare’s work includes over 38 plays and 150 short and long poems. Experience the famous words “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?” from the balcony in Romeo and Juliet and visit the various magical scenes from A Midsummer’s Night Dream in these fantastic new VR experiences! Here, Shakespeare’s work has been brought to life to provide a greater learning experience for your students.
