ClassVR Update - January 2020

Explorable Scenes

Here at ClassVR HQ we are always looking for the best way to improve our content library to best suit the needs of our users and their students. Last year we introduced videos, the year before we started our library of 3D Augmented Reality models. In 2020 we are thrilled to announce the start of a brand-new content library; Explorable Scenes.

Scenes have been developed as the next logical progression from our current content library and are all designed to give students the ability to experience their curriculum like never before. Controlled by the class teacher in the same way as 360 images and videos, scenes can be added into any pre-existing playlists or used as stand-alone resources.

Explorable Scenes Portal

Giving your students to opportunity to explore their topic allows them to build deeper, more meaningful experiences than ever before. At launch there are fifteen scenes available on the ClassVR portal, including:

  • City setting
  • Countryside setting
  • D-Day landing
  • Desert setting
  • Ancient Egypt
  • Shakespeare’s Globe
  • The Seasons
  • Mountain setting
  • Rainforest
  • Stonehenge
  • Erupting volcano
  • The water cycle
  • Apollo 11 Lunar Lander (As seen at BETT 2020!)
  • Our solar system
  • World War 1 Trenches
ClassVR Portal

To use the scenes, simply drag the icon from the middle of the page into the playlist pane and launch it exactly like any other ClassVR resource. To explore, students can hold down the Action Button on the left-hand side of the headset to move forwards in the direction they are facing, tilting and moving their head to look around.

ARC 3.0

ARC is our Augmented Reality Classroom and has been a staple of the ClassVR interface for several years. Sitting quietly in your headset’s toolbox, it has been responsible for launching and reading our AR Worksheets. This year, however, things are about to change!

As of February 2020, ARC will update to ARC version 3.0, gaining some exciting new features and a series of upgrades:

  • Integration with ARCView – all ClassVR AR resources will now launch through ARC, allowing users to seamlessly blend worksheets and AR models
  • All models from the AR Worksheets are now also in the ClassVR portal, meaning they can be built into playlists and launched without the worksheets.
  • Faster loading times
  • Resolution improvements

By bringing ARCView and ARC together, into one app, means that the user experience will be smoother, faster and a lot simpler!

Animated 3D Models

One of our most requested features has finally landed on the ClassVR portal – animated 3D models have arrived!

If you came to see us at BETT this year, you might have braved the animated tarantula on our demo kits – well now, animated models are here to stay. Alongside our current library of resources, you will now see 3D models with (animated) in their title; you don’t need to so anything special to get them running, just launch them like any other resource to see your chosen model come to life!

These are just the first of many exciting new developments we are introducing this year. The ClassVR team will be releasing more scenes every month and, as always, we will be building our resources around our user community, so if you have an amazing idea for an educational VR experience, we’d love to hear from you!
