Post SATS Virtual Reality Lessons

Up and down the UK teachers and students alike are breathing a sigh of relief – the Key Stage 2 SATS tests are (almost) over!

However, with the writing assessments on the horizon and a full half term left to fill it is important to keep the learning focus going in the classroom, so what better time to unleash your creative side and start working on some exciting VR projects?

One of the great new features of ClassVR is the ability to import and view 3D models from Paint 3D. If you are running Windows 10 with the Creators update you will already be equipped with this fantastic, if underused tool. One powerful way to use this is as part of a Design Technology project. Get your students to use the 3D imaging tools to design a moving vehicle, a World War 2 bomb shelter or a medieval castle, depending on your current topic. They can then review and edit their ideas before getting out the wood, paint and papier mache and making it for real! Getting your Paint3D creations into ClassVR is super simple – just save your project as a 3D object and upload that file to your Class Cloud. Your object will now be available to use in playlists and can be viewed and manipulated just like any other AR model.

Another way to bring work to life using the ClassVR technology is by using CoSpaces. CoSpaces allows your students to build interactive 3D worlds that can then be viewed directly through the ClassVR headsets. Whether they are illustrating a scene from a class text or just letting their imaginations run wild, the inbuilt integration with blockly means they can bring their creations to life whilst simultaneously developing their coding skills.

If you are looking for new and exciting ways to inspire creative writing in the lead up to the writing assessments then a virtual tour of Hogwarts could bring forth some magical inspiration – describe a flight through the towering turrets, or plan your defences for the battle against Voldemort! Using 360 photos and videos gives students the ability to really put themselves into stories – so the possibilities are only limited by their own imaginations!

If you are unsure about how to use any of these features of your ClassVR kit you can easily view our helpful user guides HERE or you can delve into the ‘Avantis Lesson Plans’ section of your ClassVR Portal and discover loads of great new ideas to help you get the most out of your headsets.
